Liz Evans
I was born on Christmas Day in San Diego. For grades 9 through 11 I attended San Marcos High, but I found that the classes were not very challenging (note: this was before standards). Everyone said I would not be able to do it, but I left the high school halfway through 11th grade, and by taking my remaining classes at the community college, I graduated with honors in 1995, a year early.
Due to the fact that a four year university was more expensive than my family and I had anticipated, I went back to Palomar Community College and continued writing for the newspaper by day and cashiering at various jobs by night. I became a page designer and editor for the paper, and eventually graduated with an A.A. degree in journalism.
After Palomar, I transferred to San Diego State where I attended school for one semester before transferring again to Cal State Northridge so that I could major in English/Creative Writing. I graduated with my B.A. in June of 2000. In 2002 I received my teaching credential from Cal State Northridge. In 2006 I finished a Masters/Preliminary Administrative Services Credential through CSUN.
A semester prior to graduating with my B.A., my husband and I moved to Gothenburg, Sweden so that he could study for his masters. During that time we also traveled to Norway, Denmark, France, Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg. The highlight was spending Christmas in a 14th century church lit by candle light in Luckau, a small town in former East Germany. Since then my husband and I have traveled to Finland, driven to Alaska (9,000 miles round trip!), visited Dublin, London (I love London!), the British Virgin Islands, and driven to the Florida Keys (it was very hot).
Besides traveling, I love to read, write, design web pages, go camping on the beach, spend time with my family and our dog.
I would not be a teacher today if it were not for three of my teachers: Penny Gray believed in me in 3rd grade, Morgan Story taught me that Algebra was not evil but actually fun, and Angela Ferguson inspired me to travel the world and enjoy art. Like they inspired me, I hope that I may inspire you. School should be a place you want to go.
