Class Jobs

• Paper Collector: Picks up papers from end rows and puts in period drawer.

• Teacher's Assistant: Assist the teacher where and when needed. Stamps agendas. May also substitute for other jobs. (First period TA fills out Dailey Agenda)

• Librarian: is in charge of the classroom library books. The Librarian keeps the bookshelf neat and returns any books found out of place somewhere in the room.The librarian also keeps track of books checked through the sign-in sheet.

• Homework Checker: Check off homework assignments and put into homework folder. You may substitute for the TA if that person is absent.

Grades

Language Arts Notebook (Incudes Reading, Homework, and Projects) 30%

Class grades and percentages are given to the students at the bottom of their assessments, and are available anytime a student asks for it.

Late work will only be accepted for one week, and once the due date has passed, the assignment is only worth half credit (i.e. 50%).

The teachers at Isbell Middle School want nothing more than for you to succeed. We believe that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. We are here to help you become your very best. However, we are merely guides; we cannot make your decisions for you.

We advise you not to wait until the last minute to do an assignment because you know if will not be as good as it could. Also, don't blame others for your mistakes, learn from them. Ask your teachers for help when you need it. However, in order for you to be successful, you have to do your part as a student. If you do the following five things I know you will have a great year.

1. Find out your learning style.

2. Good Cornell notes + an organized binder = a great student You should have a 3 ring binder. In that you should have:

* a metal ringed zipper bag (lasts longer) for your pens, pencils, erasers, sharpener, colored pencils etc.
* A three hole punch for binders to help keep you organized.
* Your agenda . Fill it out daily!
* a double-sided pocket folder . One side should be labeled "Homework to do/ papers to be signed" and the other side should be labeled "graded work". When you study at home you will put your graded work in your file system at home.
* Two sets of colored tabbed dividers . Separate the sets and match the colors (e.g., two greens together, the two yellows together, and so on). One tab will be labeled with the subject (e.g., Survey, Science, etc.). This section is for daily work and notes. The other tab will be one labeled "tests" or "quizzes." This way, you can quickly find your old tests and use them to study for tests or exams at the end of the grading period.
* One set of clear tabbed dividers (optional) for additional subdivisions in a particular subject.
* Notebook paper
* An expandable file folder , three- hole punched with an opening toward the binder rings. This will hold anything else (index cards, small paperback books, etc)

3. Get enough sleep.

4. Highlight and/or underline key points in your notes and handouts.

5. Attend class regularly.
